Survey Series 091-100

092-001 Female Born, 1942. Diagnosed just MS in 1991 at age 39.

Treatment, low fat, dairy free diet started 1991 with good result. The diet is worthwhile, I have good diet control, normal weight, do not exercise and do feel stress is related to MS. My quality of life is close to normal as long as I don't walk or stand much.

092-012 Female - Born, 1956 No designation, just MS diagnosis in 1994 at age 38

Treatment with Swank diet started immediately after diagnosis with excellent result. I have excellent diet control, never cheat, normal weight and 20 minutes of mild exercise daily. I do feel stress is very much involved with MS. I personally feel great most of the time, walk a mile a day, but do battle fatigue every afternoon.

092-021 Female Born, 1957. Diagnosed with just MS in 1983 at age 26.

Treatment, Prescribed medicine as needed, steroids with good result. Fillings removed 1988 with no result, started low fat, dairy free diet in 1994 with good result. I feel the diet is worthwhile, I have good diet control, about normal weight, do home gym and water exercises over 1 hour daily. Stress is related to MS. Basically I'm normal and happy but do have minor symptoms of spasticity and heat sensitivity.

092-026 Female - Born, 1949 Chronic Progressive diagnosis in 1992 at age 43

Treatment with BetaSeron in 1994 as prescribed, steroids intravenous 1995 and 96 also as prescribed. No serious side effects, but only fair results. Following the Swank low-fat diet from 1993 to present, but have only had fair results. I feel the diet is worth following and have good diet control, normal weight and exercise twice a week. Stress is a factor. Thankfully I still walk, a little clumsy & with a cane.

092-029 Female - Born, 1962 No designation, just MS diagnosis in 1996 at age 34

I refused all treatment until I could research it. Fillings replaced, bad experience and no help. Started Swank low-fat diet 7/96. I feel good about the diet and have excellent diet control, normal weight and exercise in gym every other day. I know MS exacerbations and stress are related.

092-038 Male Born, 1967. Diagnosed with just MS in 1995 at age 28.

Treatment, Avonex with good result. Fillings removed 1995 with no result, Magnet therapy good result, no longer needed. Atkin's diet 7/95, quit 9/95, exercise every other day with weights and balance exercises. See no relation between MS and stress. Tried Swank diet for 8 weeks but couldn't tolerate it. I'm OK except for walking or writing for long periods of time.

094-008 Female Born, 1935. Diagnosed Chronic/progressive in 1991 at age 56.

Treatment, Intravenous steroids with no result, fillings removed 1992 no result, Bee Venom therapy from 1994 to present fair result. Started low fat, gluten free, dairy free diet in 1993 with fair result. I believe the diet is worthwhile but I have only fair diet control, underweight, water exercise every other day which is my best therapy. Yes, stress is linked to MS. My walking is getting very bad and have back difficulties.

094-009 Male Born, 1943. Diagnosed Chronic/progressive in 1984 at age 39.

Treatment, Steroids intravenous and pills without much help. Fillings removed with no result, bee stings for 2 years, quit no result. Low fat, dairy free diet started 1986 to present. Yes, I think the diet is useful even though I've had only fair results, with good diet control, do gym and water exercise 2 hrs daily and think stress might have an effect. At this point my life is not great, but that's the breaks.

095-001 Female Born, 1940. Diagnosed Relapsing/Remitting in 1966 at age 26.

Treatment, Steroids both intravenous and pills, fair result. BetaSeron 2 years, Avonex last 6 months. Started low fat diet and think it is worthwhile, but only have fair diet control and normal weight. I do think stress and MS are related.

096-001 Male (no form returned) Did not answer questionnaire because his only treatment is prayer and hope.

100-001 Male - Born, 1944 No designation, just MS diagnosis in 1991 at age 48

Treatment with prescribed steroid pills as needed with good results, Swank low-fat diet from 1992 to present also with good results. I find the diet worthwhile, but my diet control is very poor, my weight is normal but I do not exercise regularly. I do not feel stress makes any difference in my MS. For last 5 years my MS symptoms have only very slowly worsened. The quick, devastating deterioration I experienced at first has stopped.

100-002 Female Born, 1953. Diagnosed Chronic/progressive in 1987 at age 34.

Treatment, Prayer, fillings removed 1995 with no result, low fat, gluten free, dairy free diet. I think it is worthwhile and have good results when I follow it, very poor diet control, slightly underweight, exercise sometimes. I do not relate MS to stress. I'm grieving and depressed, gait, balance and handwriting all effected.

100-006 Male Born, 1969. Diagnosed Relapsing/Remitting in 1986 at age 17.

Treatment, Avonex - good result but side effects. Low fat, dairy free, vegetarian diet started 1995 with good result. Do gym and water exercise daily.

100-007 Female Born, 1964. Diagnosed Relapsing/Remitting in 1996 at age 32.

Treatment, started low fat, gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian (except fish) diet 5 months after symptoms started with excellent results, diet control is excellent, weight normal, exercise daily 50 minutes treadmill and Tai Chi Yes I believe stress and MS have a relation to each other. I started the diet early, never cheat and feel good now and have every hope that I will stay this way. Diet is the answer, start as early as you can.

100-024 Female Born, 1938. Diagnosed Chronic/progressive in 1966 at age 28.

Treatment, prayer only untill started low fat dairy free diet 7/97. I feel the diet is worthwhile, but it is to soon to say how much it will help if any. I have excellent diet control, normal weight, do water exercise daily. I see no connection between stress and MS. I recently retired from a stressful job in child welfare. I have MS problems with heat, stumbling, less strength, etc.
