002-001 Female - Born
1966, Relapsing/Remitting - diagnosed in 1996 at age 30
Started BetaSeron
right after diagnosis. Poor result, Quit after 6 months. Major side effects.
Have used Steroids intravenous and pills. Poor result, Quit. Started Swank
Diet, limited dairy and mild exercise 2/3/97 even though doctor advised
it would not help. I believe it is worthwhile and that I have had good
results with this program. I have used it 4 months and have excellent
diet control, never cheat. I am presently normal weight. I gained on steroids
and lost 12 lbs on diet. With rest, diet and supplements I have had general
improvement. Optic neuritis has not improved, but fatigue level improved,
sleep better, leg pain improved. First MS attack after personal very traumatic
romantic disappointment. Presently exercise 15 minutes daily walking.
002-005 Female - Born
1951, Relapsing/Remitting - diagnosed in 1990 at age 39.
Treatment - Started
BetaSeron on advice of doctor. The result has only been fair and I have
massive side effects. After four and one half years I stopped the drug
because of the side effects. I expect to start Copaxone. So far have not
tried any other therapy except bee stings for a short period. They seemed
to help some, but were inconvenient because of travel. Am on a dairy free
diet because of lactose intolerance. I am about 25 lbs. overweight and
do not exercise. I "feel the MS all of the time, mostly as heat related
fatigue and some pain.

Both were stress-related incidents. 1997 Intravenous steroid treatment
for 3 days after diagnosis. Good result. Amalgam fillings removed 1997,
no result. Started Low-fat, dairy free diet Feb, '97. Have good control,
will not cheat more than once. I have full confidence that the diet and
supplements will control my presently mild symptoms. Coping emotionally
is the most difficult.

Treatment - BetaSeron
11/94 to 5/97, results fair. Some mild side effects. Doctor ordered it,
Dr. stopped it. Dr. told me diet would not help. I started low-fat dairy
free diet therapy in 1994 anyway and still use it to present. The results
have been good even though my diet control is poor. I cheat often. My
weight is normal, I do water exercises twice a week. I feel upbeat, join
groups.

1954, Relapsing/Remitting MS diagnosed in 1992 at age 28.
Treatment - Started
BetaSeron in 1994, switched to Avonex in 1997. Also use intravenous steroids
as needed. With all that only fair result. Started Swank Diet in 1997.
I heard about the diet right after diagnosis but did not start it for
3 1/2 years. I only have fair diet control and cheat on the diet about
once a month. I exercise 3 times a week in a gym and am normal weight.
I seem to be doing much better with the diet although heat exacerbates
my MS.
